Demonstration in Gaza..Now.

(Modified) A Huge, and very loud, demonstration is taking place now in Gaza City. I could only take few pictures with my simple camera of some parts of it. That is best i have. It is 9:30 pm here and there is mostly no electricity in the area.

Islamic Jihad is leading this demonstration, as it started heading to the Palestinian Leginslative Council, some of the crowd diverted it to the UNSCO (United Nations office) and some attacked the building and broke desks and windows of UN cars. Several cars with speakers were playing different types of recordings some are speeches by Hassan Nasrallah and some national songs. Demonstration is calling for more resistence actions as a reaction to the latest Israeli crimes in Lebanon, especially in the south(Qana)

Najla, thanks for reporting on what is going on.

I do have a question: I was speaking to a Jewish friend of mine who is a strong supporter of Israel. He said something I wanted to check with you. He claims that for thirty years now, the Palestinians have shown restraint, out of fear of what Israel would do. As an example, he says that no bomber or attacker has gone after the Wailing Wall or the Israeli Parliament, because if those actions were taken, the response from Israel would be even more brutal than usual.

Is this at all accurate, in your opinion? Or is it higher security by the Israelis that explains this? If it is somewhat or fully accurate, than will this latest brutal bloodshed test some of the unwritten "rules" of the long conflict between Israel and Palestine?

Hang in there.

Bless all those who are suffering. Not all Americans support the use of war as a political tool...some still believe in the power of mercy and love.

Thank you all for the comments.
I would like to answer your question Mayer that i was thinking about all night and this morning. I think it is both. Your friend is right, i believe because i know that it is not impossible to reach these areas. Also, i remember a couple of event at least that had symbilc meaning only and didnt hurt anyone, such as a car exploded near Ariel Sharon House few years ago, and a car was also bombed near the main Police center in Jerusalem. But also, there was the killing of the Israeli minister Rahba'am Ze'vi in 2001 as revenge to the assasination of the PFLP (Popular Front Liberation Pal.) leader (chair) Abu Ali Mustafa. This have led to the siege of Arafat in Rammallah compound and so many military operations were executed because of those who were accused to be responsible for the killing of the minister and till now the story continues. Now, again, it is not easy to answer. I dont think the Wailing Wall is an idea and i hope it will never be, because it is a Holy place although the mosque was attacked many times. The Knesset is difficult to reach but also it needs a political descision and many concerns such as the timing and who of the factions will want to do that and what will the benefts be and the consequences. Because at the end of the day, it will be only symbolic.I dont know!

Thanks for the answer, Najla. If it is true that there has been restraint on the part of the Palestinians, then I am now even more worried, because so many years after the Occupation began, so many years after Oslo brought "peace"...so long after the first and second intifadahs...the argument for restraint weakens.
There is only a political solution, I agree. But will my country ever become the honest broker that is needed to make peace? We are the only nation that can change Israel's behavior.

BTW, the conservative American blogs that I go to are claiming that the building in Qana was attacked in the evening, and only collapsed in the morning, either because Hezbollah wanted to have casualties or because of accidental detonation of Hezbollah explosives. It is unbelievable, but that is what some right wing Americans are believing. I suppose they have to thinkn of some reason to ignore the suffering of the Arabs.

You are not forgotten.

Maybe the Israelis are hoping the world will forget about their war crimes in Gaza by murdering children in Lebanon, but we are watching and we are not forgetting.
